What should I get my wife for Christmas?? We have had a great time learning to sail and she is really into learning all the "ropes".? What would you buy for your boat if you were to spend $50- $500.? And as much as I hated to watch Dennis Conner and crew fail to cover in that match race, I much later lived in Australia, where in the Sydney Harbour Maritime Museum resides that wing'ed keel -- and I had cheer them on. Good on them. Their finacial backer eventually went on to spend time in prison for fraud, where he took up watercolours. The winged keel is sound, but a plate of steel isn't the same as lead down lower, if reducing the heel (and for uncomfortable companions, that's often an up-or-down vote) is an issue. I usually pull the tiller to maximize heel, just for the fun of it. Less efficiency, of course, but the whole experiment seems more exhilarating. (I'm excluding from this experiment the Lake Superior gigs. Less heel, less green water over the coamings, that's a "good thing." 95th Monty Registered! Mugs on the way!

Congratulations to Larry Short! He was the 95th Montgomery to be entered into the Montgomery Owners Registry with his M15 "Bambina". As promised, 2 Monty Mugs will go out in the mail today. Next stop 100 boats registered! And (as promised), there will be 2 Monty Mugs sent to the 100th boat registered. If you are not familiar with the Owner's Registry, It is a list of Montgomery boats and owners that is searchable by boat size, name, location, owner, hull ID#, etc. It is just a resource to assist in finding out information such as "What other Montys are sailing in the area I'm going to be visiting?", or "Who owns that really nice Monty I keep seeing at the marina?" There is no charge to enter your boat or to use the registry. If you aren't already registered, Take a few minutes and register now!!! M-17 owners in Puget Sound?

A while back I posted a note asking to see an M-15, and several kind souls responded. (Dave Scobie even generously took me for a sail -- thanks, Dave!). What a wonderful boat. And ... I've since been wondering about the M-17. Are there any owners in the Puget Sound area who would let me take a look? Thanks. Pam

Hi. I live in the Portland, Oregon metro area and presently own M-15 #302. I've been doing some minor work on the running rigging, etc. and have been out on the Willamette River a few times. I hope to try the Columbia this fall. My wife and I love the boat - easy to trailer and launch - fits in the garage - looks and sails great. Hi Dave... The problem with the Galley model is only one person can sit below. While this is not a problem forsingle or solo sailors, most of our owners have wives and family. And so far, everyone likes the 4 berthboat. Cooking outside on a cockpit table under an awning works for most.
