I am going to purchase a furling headsail rig and want to sell my spinaker and pole. the Sail is 20years old but in great shape and the pole is great also. Can someone suggest what i should ask for them? Arnold sharpe, M-17 #265 "Little Breeze"

Proper mast rake for M-15

I know that this has been rehashed before but I don't remember hearing the answer that stuck in my head so I am going to ask again. How do you know when your mast is ideally placed? The last four times I've gone out I was becalmed the first three and the fourth was a boomer of a day resulting in a broken rudder handle. I've been reading the recent posts with delight! It ain't just me! So I don't have a good reference point yet of what my speed could or should be. If I level the boat to "zero" degrees of pitch and roll in my driveway, measured off the floor or the seat, wouldn't that give you the reference point to rake the mast? And if so, how much rake? Jerry, I read your post about feeling ashamed [on Lake Michigan?] and tweaking someones mast because they complained the M-15 was too slow. Can you provide some input please? Hello Gordon, In your post: Bones, a guy named John who says he sold you your M-17 sends his regards. That would be John Mayer, a charter captain, carpenter, guitarist, and all around great guy that sold me my M17 in 1997. It took me three months to convince him that I should be the next owner. A Superior boat

I just returned from four-day trip in the Apostle Islands, and I just have to say how pleased I am at how well my M-17 performed. It's amazing how stable Sapphire was fully loaded with camping gear, food, water, beer, steaks, brats, me and my 270-pound nephew, etc., even in stronger winds. Bones, a guy named John who says he sold you your M-17 sends his regards. He's a skipper for hire who was taking a group of 14-year- old boys through the islands on a Tartan 37. We saw him at both Stockton and Rocky islands. John, along with several other nice folks we met on the trip, had lots of nice things to say about the boat. Yamaha 2.5 on M-15

Dave wrote asking about the Yamaha 2.5 on the M-15 and that is what I am using on mine. I would have preferred a Honda but the Yamaha came with the boat and it fits the bill quite well. The shaft is not a long one, but with the short shaft, in fact I don't even use the braquette in the lowest position. The Yamaha is alright, although alittle quirkey on the starting. It has plenty of power, but as you said, " It would be nice if someone Honda, Nissan, Yamaha) would make one with a fuel pump" and (maybee reverse) ... Lou (M-15 Still The One)

Refueling suggestion

I bought a small one gallon gas can at Wal-Mart that is perfect for gassing outboards. The nozzle is spring loaded and the gas only flows when the spring is depressed. I can turn the can upside down and nothing comes out. When I refuel the engine, I push down on the spring-loaded spout, and it only fills until it is full and will not overfull, it will just stop. It is so easy to use. I don't let my engine run out. I shut it down and gas it and then restart it. If I let it run out I have to pull it more times. It weighs under ten pounds full, easy to lean over the side, and I hide it in the locker, it's that small. If I need more than one gallon for the day I take a larger can to refuel the little one. "Dauntless" is off the market..

Let's say "I came to my senses!"..hahaha. She's staying put right here in Lake Havasu for her foreseeable future. Believe it or not there was "some" interest in her, even at the screamin' high price I was asking. However, as I had described, she was only going to be for sale as long as a window of opportunity existed to make a move on another specific vessel we were considering. Well, although that vessel is still available, some further research on my part lead to the decision that at least for now, we are not going in that direction. An email has been sent to the MSOG site requesting that the ad be removed. Big thanks to all those that sent emails when I posted we might be leaving the Monty Owners ranks. Cancel the party.....we're staying!!! Some of the inquiries re: "Dauntless" were rather interesting, though. Just the other night, after emailing back and forth with a gentleman from the east coast about sails, headroom, v-berth size, etc, he came back with the following question. "Would you have any reservations at all about crossing the Atlantic in this boat?"............................GULP....Heck yeah I would! hahaha. I'd have reservations about crossing the Atlantic in any 23 foot boat! I know it's been done...but by better sailors than me! I told him about the 17 Bob just built that is crossing the Pacific and the 15 that is now in Hawaii that Jerry built.....but .....well, like I said I'd have reservations! (probably more about me than about the boat) Another thing was that both of those boats had some custom work on them, and both were brand new....A lot of Dauntless' parts and pieces are now 30 years old.....I think I'm sticking to Coastal stuff! Who knows, though, maybe the Bahamas some year...yeah, I'd try that! What do ya say Larry, Gary, Gary O., road trip to Florida in 2010???? :-) What changed my mind?...well, lets say that electric retracting vertical bulb keels sound very enticing...best of both worlds, if you will......until you find out that one of them has had the torpedo bulb "fall-off" three times! Yeah, that's a headache I don't need, especially when that bulb has ALL of the boat's ballast in it! "Further research required" before I move in that direction!!!! As you all know...I'm very fond of my ballast!! hahaha. Be good...keep sailing...join us in Channel Islands/Oxnard/Ventura over Labor Day Weekend. Three Montys have confirmed that they are going...in fact it should be a Monty photo shoot! (23, 17, 15). We'll join those crazy Socal Potter guys, a Catalina 25, and an Ensign 23, and whatever else shows up and have a great time.
