Tim, A product called McLube seems to work very well to lubricate and has no sticky residuals. Endorsed by Harken. I have had only good experiences with one caveat- Do not get the material on anything you do not want to be slippery! All the running hardware on my boat, boltrope, and sail track have been coated (sprayed) Do not allow overspray onto the deck of your boat. Available at most 'Sailing stores' Useful foe windows etc. as it is very "clean" when dry. GO NFIW- might be similar to the material you refer to?

M15 stuck centerboard

I wonder if there would be some way to put a bungee cord on the end of the pennant that put just enough tension on it to pull it up out of the way if the centerboard came up, but not pull the center board up? I've had that problem, too, though more commonly mine gets stuck when a rock gets into it. Bobbie

There's a photo on the photo site of Sweat Dream being lifted by ropes while I give her a bottom job. I installed a set of "U" bolts on the sides aft of the cabin at the hull to deck joint, down thru the teak rub strip. I lift from there and from the bow horn cleat with another pair of "safety ropes" to the aft cleats and another safety rope to the bow eye (trailer winch pull point). I worked real hard to get the center of gravity just right so she comes straight up off the trailer. I considered lifting from the chainplates (I hear the factory does) but the holes are awful small and a shackle that fit thru the hole would only be rated for a few 100# working load. We can't even keep the wax on our cars here very long! Candles melt in a couple of minutes here in Gila Monster Land. Ingenious idea for ongoing lubrication if the ambient temp is suitable. Jim, Are you sure it's the center board trunk? Or, is it possible the center board pennant has gotten wedged between the centerboard and the trunk? On our M-15, if I get into shallow water and the board gets pushed up by the bottom, before I get around to raising it myself, the lifting pennant will sometimes get stuck between the board and the side of the trunk. And yes, it binds it up real tight. Not saying it's not the trunk swelling, but I would check this first. Ours works fine, as long as I always pull the board up with the line. Unfortunately, last time we were out I screwed up and rubbed the board on the bottom and right now it's stuck again. Something to think about. Thanks! I'll check with Ullman and on the teflon tape at the boltrope. So what's this "backstay batten (magic twanger)" thing? A shield to protect the sail as it hits the backstay? Larry, If my memory serves me - Hobie built about 90 trazillion boats with full battens and NO slugs! Frequently these sails had bolt rope with teflon (-like materiel) woven into the boltrope cover. very slippery. Talk to the folk at Ullman sails in Newport Beach, CA. Dave Ullman was a fan of full battens in the top position (don't know about the second) maximum depth headboard is advisable and compliments the full top batten (fathead) they may be able to shed some light on the questions you have. Bolt Rope & Full Battens

Doug, I'm with you on this. I like the bolt rope, and I roll mine up on the boom similar to your method. It's fast and clean. I'm shopping for a new main and plan on going with a bolt rope again, with a loose foot. One problem, however, is if you want full battens. I was hoping to have the sail made with the top 2 battens full, but the sailmaker says they'll hang up without slugs. Any of you have experience with this?
