North Channel Cruise

I'm planning on a two week North Channel Cruise in mid June. I'll probably drive from Ohio to Tobermory, take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry over to South Baymouth (Manitoulin Island), and then drive to Little Current (Manitoulin Island) on Saturday June 5th. I might end up taking the ferry on the morning of the 6th depending on how late I hit the road. At the present time I'm thinking of making a general counter clockwise spin around the North Channel, launching at Spider Bay Marina in Little Current and going north and then west to the Bustard Islands and west and then crossing south to the west end of Manitoulin and returning east again. Of course, all plans are subject to the weather and whims of the person at the helm! Mid June will probably be a bit ahead of the crowd and still kinda nippy. M-12 class association?

I was browsing through a book I had bought thirty years ago and it lists some one-design class association secretaries. At that time, the M12 class association secretary was one Nancy Kilpatrick of Newport Beach, CA. Never knew such a thing existed. Tod

A couple of points. A motor need fuel, air, spark, and timing to run. A weak ignition will spark a plug in open air but not under compresion (higher resistance across the air gap). The best way to check is the starting fluid test. I've also run an outboard on propane from a blow torch by having somene hold the unlit torch next to the carb air inlet while I cranked the OB. This verified a fuel delivery problem. Good Luck Don

Or if that's not possible, develop a "good enough" attitude. I got West System Epoxy "how to" manual today. It covers much of what Don Casey says as well as goes into more on the Epoxy, while Don's book deals with much more, such as sealants and polyester resins. Both books age worth buying. Gone Sailing

Hi all, Some of you will recall I was poised to buy a new M-15, when Tipperary" my M-17 came up for sale. Since purchase, I've been unable with time, confidence or crew to launch her in the San Francisco Bay. On days that the wind would co-operate (5-15 knots) I had no time. On days where I had lots of time the wind was just to strong and intimidating (15 -25 knots) for a new boat sailor. Be that as it may, I've decided to get used to her OR get rid of her. So now, I'm on a quest. Beginning tomorrow, I'm off to go sailing. I'll be sticking to lakes in Northern California, Oregon and possibly Washington and gone until the middle of July. By then I'll either keep my M-17 or she'll be for sale or trade for a nice M-15. Bill M-17 "Tipperary"

Does anyone sail with a bimini top?

Hi All... I'm curious. Does anyone sail with a bimini for sun protection? Or is there not enough clearance for the boom, room in the cokpit, etc. Hope to buy an M17 next weekend, if all goes well! Hi Gordon, Thanks to your suggestion about writing a book, I've started the spade work. Have a three ring binder and am busy dropping notes into envelopes in the binder whenever my wife and come up with new reminiscences. ...........like the time we were sailing down the English Channel and had to leave the boat in Boulogne harbor for a week and get back to work at the end of a vacation. It poured rain as I doubled up all the lines, and as I bent down to fasten the last spring line, there was a ri.i.i.p - as the center seam in my suntan pants let go........... No time to get new pants, the train to Paris was leaving shortly, so the Admirable walked behind me as we rushed to the train station, to keep the display from being to obvious........ In Paris we had to change trains to get to our suburban town, but I made it without getting arrested for indecent exposure. Thanks for the suggestion....... It sure brings back lots of nice memories.
