North Channel Cruise

I'm planning on a two week North Channel Cruise in mid June. I'll probably drive from Ohio to Tobermory, take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry over to South Baymouth (Manitoulin Island), and then drive to Little Current (Manitoulin Island) on Saturday June 5th. I might end up taking the ferry on the morning of the 6th depending on how late I hit the road. At the present time I'm thinking of making a general counter clockwise spin around the North Channel, launching at Spider Bay Marina in Little Current and going north and then west to the Bustard Islands and west and then crossing south to the west end of Manitoulin and returning east again. Of course, all plans are subject to the weather and whims of the person at the helm! Mid June will probably be a bit ahead of the crowd and still kinda nippy. Depth and Fish Finder installation on M15

I am installing a Piranha 15 combination fish and depth finder in the forward locker forward of the keel slope on my M15. Can anyone recommend a non permanent material to set the transducer in? I want to test it before epoxying it in place. The hull has a slight concave well just forward of the keel slope that I am going to test. Would it better to fill the well with epoxy to make a level spot or just use the attaching material to fill the well and hold the transducer in place? Any insights would be appreciated. Spinnaker for M-15

Hi, I'm interested in getting an asymmetrical spinnaker for my M-15. A sailmaker familiar with Montgomerys recommended one with dimensions of 16' luff, 14.5' leech, and 8' girth, made of 0.75 ounce nylon. Total sail area would be about 108 square feet. M-15 DOES LET YOU HEAVE TO

Saturday was 37 degrees, flukey wind going from 10 to 20, then 22 sustained with highest gust of 29mph. I wore heavy foul weather gear, neoprene gloves and a good life preserver. Now I know why I wait till the weekend before Thanksgiving to pull the boat from the slip. The fall is by far the best sailing for NE PA. I tried to heave to with a reef in the jib and main. The boat calmed down and behaved, much to my surprise. Each time it looked like it was going to blow too far downwind, the backwinded, reefed jib pulled the bow right back. I believe the key is to slow the boat down to almost a stop first, while releasing the main sheet quite a bit. Sunday was 63 degrees. Played golf with my wife and friends. Life is good. Hi Norm, Not knowing the size and shape of your transducer, let me give you some past experience from larger ships... There transducers were mounted in a piece of PVC pipe, cut to fit the hull shape so that the transducer was looking "down" properly. The PVC pipe was held in place using some modeling clay. You then add some mineral oil inside the pipe - just enough to provide a signal path from the face of the transducer through the oil to the hull - and give it a try. If it works well in that spot you can make a permanent installation; if not, you can try another spot without too much trouble. I think Scott had some comments on transducer mounting some time ago, maybe he could like to comment as well. Connie
