Larry, I took a close look at my 1982 trailrite trailer and conclude it should not be on the road. All of the trailer was badly rusted. The hollow 2x2 cross brace (axel) was about eaten through by rust and the wheels looked like they could break free at any time. I have had it 8 years and sailed in salt water all the time. Dennis, I am in the process of sanding very slowly all of the teak. It looks like it will look good. The bigger challenge will be to make perfect hull repairs to the gel coat. When was the last time you operated the Center Board? I really want to get the boat elevated to not only rehab the trailer but to actually operate and inspect the center board. Good Luck Dennis......and I still glad I got this Montgomery 15. I plan on taking it to a local boating outfit and have a trained eye give some opinion on the small stuff like repairing cracks and sandblasting the trailer and coating it with anti rust materials. The trailer is in need of lots attention to be made to look as new. Boat (hull # 189) and trailer are 1981 manufacture. I want a safe process to pull out the trailer that I can do at home with simple car jacks, wood, bolts, carpeting and grabber screws. Thanks for the idea. I do not have any available garage space so I am stuck outside on the concrete. I am thinking of building a wooden cradle that can be jacked up on heavy legs and large pins thru pre-drilled holes. One strap goes just in front of the shoal keel and the other behind the keel. This would be a lot of assembly so I may have to think of alternatives. I doubled up a couple of the 2X6 rafters and added removeable verticle supports on each side of the width of the trailor. The sled weighs over 2000 pounds so I was careful to over build. My guess is I would have felt safe with alot less if the boat weighed 750 pounds. I borrowed a couple of chain binders (come alongs) and since I used only one on each sling the boat healed as it came up, but not to badly as I lifted it only a couple of feet. If your doing bottom work on the boat you may want to think about four of the binders so the boat can be lifted flat. The project came off pretty straight forward and I'd do it that way again if I needed to lift the boat off the trailor. PS and by the way... these slings come with no warranty expressed or implied and all liability for any misshaps will be on the user of the slings. West / Northwest Boaters

We're headed down the coast in the next few weeks (Vancouver to San Diego) and I have a M 7'-11" dinghy that I would be happy to deliver to any takers along the way. I had it sold last time, but the deal fell through due to an illness. I'd be happy to offer details off-line if anyone is interested. It's basically a new boat with all the goodies...Caviness oars w/bronze locks, Harken blocks, Montgomery centerboard/rudder/tiller, full sail package, etc. I'd like to get close to $1,000. for it which is about 1/3rd the cost of new.
