I fine that latex cushions feel best but once they get wet they small bad, I think latex is in the family of memory foam. The cushions in this M-17 feel OK until you sit for while then they are flat and hard.

Buying a new Monty

I like the arguments. They add color to the list. I don't like reading post from the righteous telling the fighters how to act. If you're mad you should be able to vent it and if you're defending your honor you should be able to say what you need to do that. I think the basis of this list and any other forum is truth. We all want the straight scoop on these boats and how to enjoy and maintain them. Holding back when someone is getting uncomfortable or following someone's definition of a gentleman probably won't get anyone very close to the truth. There's a saying in the river town where I grew up, "Is this a private fight or can anyone join?" Yes, I discovered, by experimentation, this past Spring that buffing before using Penetrol yields a much better result. Unfortunately, I never buffed as thoroughly as I'd have liked, so hope to rectify that Spring '05 . . . Penatrol seems to "treat" the gel coat, like Armour All on vinyl, restoring the original luster. To get a real high gloss shine, there's no substitute for buffing, polishing, and waxing. Penatrol is just a lot easier, but the key is still the prep work. Although Tullamore's hull looks great in pictures, there are some blotchy areas where the deeper oxidation wasn't removed completely. As soon as the weather warms enough, I'll be wet sanding and then rebuffing the hull to take care of that, along with patching some nicks in the gel coat. Larry

couple of questions on foam's, rubber, latex memory,

I have been looking for soft cushion material that is still soft to sleep on YET will not sock up water like a sponge, like spray or rain what ever, All the soft foam I can find that is comfortable to sleep gets destroyed by water (falls apart when rubbed) and sun light (gets chalky and crumbles). Or works like a giant sponge. I even tried a block of the so called memory form, It is very nice and soft. I put it on a anchor and let to sink to about thirty feet in the river. That was three weeks ago and still I can not get it dry. And even after three washings it still smells like mud. My search of places like goggle have not been fruitful. Does any one know of a COAST GUARD approved floatation foam that is as soft as a mattress, perhaps that would be a better search, But I have looked all over even Home depot for dual purpose foam. Am I asking to much from those chemical engineers. I found several old life Jackets at the flea market, dollar each, and cut them apart to see if they world have anything of value, but that foam is as hard as sleeping on rocks.

Does anyone need a pattern of the M15 center board?

I thought I read in some past message that someone lost or wanted a pattern for the M15 centerboard. If you do, contact me. I've got mine out during the refurb. I did find a very hidden problem in the center board holes for the pin and pennant. There were hair line cracks in the holes. Being an obsessive, I explored the holes with a dremel tool. I found rusted voids! I have removed a lot of material and rust from the holes. I used Rust N ME to neutralize the rust and filled the voids and other hair line cracks with 5 minute epoxy. This should stop any water from entering the centerboard and strengthen the hole. If you take yours out, be sure to check this area. Norm M15 #172

I want to caution you all that comments made here about others may have legal ramifications if they can be shown to be libelous. Others have said that this is not the forum for legal disputes, and I believe they are correct. To me, it seems appropriate to describe your experiences with various suppliers as good or bad, positive or negative, and to describe anything you might have done differently to protect yourself. I believe it is counterproductive for you, boring to most others, and inappropriate for the mailing list if you start reciting a litany of offenses that you feel others have committed. Problems are best remedied face to face, or through legal channels. Email is a terrible way to resolve a dispute. I also want to remind you that recalling a post is impossible. Nothing is ever lost on the Internet and there's no way of pulling it back once you hit send. The best advice has been said before...treat every post you send as if it was going to appear on the front page of the newspaper. If you're angry, write it, save it overnight, read it again, and then -- and only then -- send it. I welcome your comments, but let's keep them under this subject so that those that don't wish to be involved can filter or delete the thread. Thanks, Your list moderator
