Jerry If you are still intrested I'd like to try to intregate your cad drawings with my system and complete any areas necessary to get a complete plan & elevation drawings. Hi Jerry: Sorry your e-mail bounced, don't know why it did that - I am at the same address, must have been a gremlin in the wire. Any way thanks for the M17 line drawings, I got them today, & am going to start some drawings right away. I'll send you and any one who is intrested, some copies when I'm done. Had my M17 out Sat. about 10knt wind and it just romped along like the throughbred it is......... life is sweet. Happy sails Wayne

Carol and Stan, Thanks, just got your e-mail. Getting online is a problem, and basically it happens only when I am in a motel. The whole get-to-gether in Monterey was great, met some really good people and some great sailors. The races were fun and Miss T was hauling butt all day. I would like to race again next year but it seems unlikely. John

Lake Pend Orielle sail

As Vince & Sharon said, we had a great time at Lake Pend Orielle last weekend with the Potter group. Fun people! Saturday was hot with wind in the morning; but Sunday we got SW winds that made small whitecaps. Vince and Sharon in 'Duet' and me in 'Vanilla' were doing up to 6.2 knots according to the GPS at times, even down wind wing&wing! That's the fastest I've gone in Vanilla. The theoretical 4.8 knot hull speed definitely is too conservative for an M15, especially when you're surfing! It took us a while to get back to the dock against the wind but we made it. In that wind two people in the boat have an advantage--they can carry more sail because of the added 'ballast'. Happy Sailing! --Gary Hyde M15 #235 'Vanilla'

center board revisited

Hello again, In the past months there has been some talk of centerboards being stuck in the trunk of M-17 s. I am currently in the throws of the centerboard struggle. My boat at a mooring buoy and I underneath with snorkel equipment getting my excersise. Has anyone considered replacing the iron board with stainless steel? (Mine is an '83 M-17) Is the weight comparable? Is the cost prohibitive? Hi Vince and Sharon, In regards to your pivot pin, I did exactly what you were suggesting with a stainless steel bolt. I suppose it might be a slight drag, but from what I've seen sailing with other boats, Tullamore has no problems with speed. It also makes the job much easier when it comes time to replace the line that raises and lowers the board. My original pin actually was a flush mount bolt (like a screw) that bedded in flush in an indent in the keel, but didn't go clear through. It just threaded into the keel itself. Over time those threads stripped out, so I drilled it all the way through, sealed it from leaks, and put in the bolt. Be sure the non-threaded part of the bolt is long enough to reach past the centerboard so the threads don't chew on it. Larry Yake M17, #200 Tullamore Deer Park, Wa. Montgomerys win again at the SCA Cruiser Challange!

John Edwards comes in first place in the medium boat division in his Montgomery 17 "Miss T". Mike Truman comes in first place in the small boat division in his Montgomery 15. I just talked to John Edwards and Steve Eshleman (who came in second place behind Mike Truman in his M_15, SCAMP) on Johns cell phone this morning while they were finishing up breakfast. John says he will be posting more information as soon as he can find a place to plug in his laptop. Probably tommorrow night. John visited our factory last week for a new rudder and new trailer for his Montgomery 17! Congradulations!!! Bob
