Hi all, Stefan has written to me basically telling me that I've crossed the line by asking you to send money for the videos. But before you all get mad at him, think about it. What difference does it make to Stefan whether I give away a hundred copies or sell them for $100 each? None whatsoever. He's just concerned that one of his fans might get squashed by the ruthless record companies that made his life hell. So, this is my new "official" position regarding the videos. (and Stefan suggested this to me). To get a copy of my videos, send me a blank VHS cassette, an envelope to send it back to you, and sufficient return postage (in a form that is valid in Canada) and you will get a copy no problems. So far, about 20 people have expressed interest in getting a copy. 3 of those may have addition material to contribute or improvements to the set I already have. On my side, I'm working on a set of title pages for different sections of the video. Does anyone wish to contribute some printing (in the form of labels and a possible cover for the cassette)? You can count me in for the video. I think it's great that Stefan is doing what he can to protect all us hatless ones. Thanks! Hmmm...... "it sounds familiar, but it doesn't sound the same..." Here's my perspective (as a fan since 1980 - if that means anything): Were the videos ever for sale by the band? If so, sure you can't sell them to us - I can appreciate that. It's more likely that the videos were the property of their respective labels, in which case you shouldn't be selling them anyhow!!! Tell you what: I'll send you enough money to buy me a video tape etc etc, and you send me it back avec vids. Sound okay? Cheers, and always hatless, Sterling -----Original Message----- From: men-without-hats-admin@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:men-without-hats-admin@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Senz Sent: Friday, 15 March 2002 18:24 To: Men Without Hats Subject: [Men Without Hats] Video Update #2 Hi all, Stefan has written to me basically telling me that I've crossed the line by asking you to send money for the videos. Sorry, I don't know what "selling" means. 8-) (btw, it's a half n' half split with the band and the labels.)

hmmmmm... (see "official" position) Just a extra point for the overseas people. I simply don't have access to equipment to produce a PAL format tape. It will be up to you to get the NTSC cassette converted if you wish. I have just completed some preliminary artwork for the restored videos. The cover is in it's protype stage and is just an example of what can be whipped up quickly. You can see the cover at my yahoo briefcase here: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/karialec/lst?&.dir=/Men+Without+Hats&.src=bc&.... I am looking for suggestions and feedback on it so far. I am contacting Senz to see what credits he wants on it and if he has a title for the collection. There are 2 pictures, one ready for download and one of the cover printed and inserted into your standard video store bought plastic VHS case. Cheers! Very nice :) It reminds me of the Pop Goes The World 12". But I realized something. Should the no hats logo be used? The band dropped the logo when they found out it closely resembled the logo used in Jamaica for no Rastafarians. Then again, it's used on the official website.

Use the logo!!! I really don't give a phuq about any anti-rasta signs. The no-hats logo is.. I dunno.. so recognizable and so well-connected with the band that you couldn't separate them even with a big joint! [rant complete] - Johan
Just an opinion on the logo: KEEP IT! And I hope it is somewhere on the new release also. I have also been told that the logo was used by gay rights activists as their own too. And living in a more liberal town now I wonder how many people interpret it that way when they see my logos. <If you are in southern WI area and see a blue Saturn with a Rhythm of Youth Picture disc LP proudly displayed in the back window and/or a MWH sticker on license plate, beep and I'll turn up the MWH music as you pass.> And no, I am not. Hard to imagine someone going out and grabbing a logo they see and using it for their own purposes eh? <sarcastic grin> I like the cover art but it will use a whole cartridge of black ink. Oh... guess I will print it at work. How about adding thumbnails of some of the vids on the back outside border ? Just a thought, as I do like the way it resembles the PGTW 12" also. MMM ~Hatless
Nah... no melting. It is yellow, not black, so that must help. That, and windows that are anti-solar (or something like that).
