[math-fun] Usenet sci.math & .research
<asked with some trepidation> Is anyone still reading or contributing to the Usenet groups sci.math or sci.math.research? Rich
I look at them very occasionally and rarely submit questions. Sometimes I get a useful answer, but the questions I ask are usually difficult, ones I really want answers to. No. I don't bother with newsgroups any more. IMHO, the Usenet groups were effectively crippled not long after the Internet went public in 1992. They have since become the domain of spammers, flamers and trolls. I remember the good old days, and I remember the early efforts to restrict commerce on the Internet for reasons that became all to apparent later. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Schroeppel, Richard" <rschroe@sandia.gov> To: <math-fun@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, June 14, 2008 1:29 AM Subject: [math-fun] Usenet sci.math & .research
