[math-fun] Peter Luschny's gamma function approximation-formulas collection
http://www.luschny.de/math/factorial/approx/SimpleCases.html Luschny describes efforts like Gosper's latest as "pimp my formula" :)
This is a great collection, thanks Warren Smith! I think one of the folks at the math conference in Boston told me about a factorial website (perhaps it was Charles Greathouse), and this must be it. Luschny views the approximations as if they were all being used to compute the factorial of very large real arguments, e.g. Gamma[x] for real x>1000. As general-purpose Gamma formulas, his conclusions on high precision solutions aren't all that relevant. In many cases you'd have to apply the identity Gamma[x+1] = x Gamma[x] hundreds of times. - Robert On Tue, Jan 10, 2012 at 12:00, Warren Smith <warren.wds@gmail.com> wrote:
