Years ago I idly iterated smooth functions that generalized Collatz, such as x/2 cos^2 pi x/2 + 3x+1 sin^2 pi x/2 It's just now struck me (doh!) that such functions have a 3-cycle, hence cycles of all periods. Funny how some of them are integral.
