[math-fun] SET / Rubik mashup
Is this sort of hybrid between the games SET and the Rubik's cube a new thing? https://twitter.com/nomad_penguin/status/937810975025086464 Jim Propp
Actually, I see now that it's an assembly puzzle (like Instant Insanity) and not a moving-parts puzzle (like Rubik's cube). So: has anyone thought to replace the labels on a Rubik's cube with SET symbols? (And what should the design be? We need to choose 54 of the 81 symbols to appear on the exposed faces of the cubies.) I imagine that marketing such a thing would be an IP nightmare, if the rights to SET and Rubik's cube are held by different companies. Then again, SET could sell adhesive labels that "coincidentally" happen to be the same size as the faces of cubies of standard-size Rubik cubes. This reminds me of a very nice block puzzle, whose name escapes me at the moment but which I know some people on this list are familiar with: you have 27 blocks of size (say) 9x10x11, and you have to fit them in a box of size 30x30x30. - Cris

Cristopher Moore Professor, Santa Fe Institute Why should we be deported? This is very, very hard for a family. What will our fellow citizens think if honest subjects are faced with such a decree — not to mention the great material losses it would incur. I would like to become a Bavarian citizen again. Your most humble and obedient, Friedrich Trump (1905)
This puzzle is analyzed in Winning Ways. -Veit
