[math-fun] Not fun: MAA dues
Sorry for the not-fun, OT inquiry... I'm curious if the MAA dues have recently skyrocketed. I just got my renewal and I'm really shocked: Last time I renewed, I did so in 2001 for two years for $72. I now see that my dues to renew are $77 for *one*year*. Can it be that the dues have more than doubled in the last two years? [unless I'm missing something, that's a big enough leap [and indeed, a big enough bite out of my budget] that I'm thinking it is time to let my membership lapse [after nearly 40 years!]] /Bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:bernie@fantasyfarm.com Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <--
I pay more than $100/year starting 1998, so for me current price is about the same. Alec Mihailovs http://webpages.shepherd.edu/amihailo/

If you've been a member that long, you may be eligible for a "lifetime membership" if they are still offering it. The actual yearly quota depends on subscriptions, and current prices are quite a bit more than what you mention. If you think something is unusual, why not send them an e-mail and ask about it? good luck - hvm ------------------------------------------------- Obtén tu correo en www.correo.unam.mx UNAMonos Comunicándonos

I've never seen anything along those lines or any such offer. Only thing like that I've seen is "retired" [which is what I have been for some time now]. I'll ask them about that...

I did and that's why I asked here: In reponse to a direct question ["did the 'retired' membership really more than double in the last 2 yrs?"] I got back a pile of evasions [expenses keep going up, etc...] rather than a simple yes or no. Perhaps it is the case that the retired rate was anomalously low in the past and now has been brought into line with the other rates... Oh well. /Bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:bernie@fantasyfarm.com Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <--
