[math-fun] Kevin Brown?
If somebody knows how to reach Kevin Brown of www.mathpages.com (excellent pages!), please send me a PRIVATE message. The @gte.net address given by www.who.is is not working. Thanks. Christian.
Can't help with his address, I'm afraid, but his stuff is very readable --- though my antique browser does have some difficulty interpreting his math symbols. It would be interesting to know what some of the more applied folk on this list think of his "Reflections on Relativity"! WFL On 2/18/11, Christian Boyer <cboyer@club-internet.fr> wrote:

That's only helpful if you believe "1729 S. Hardy Street" is a real address! I suppose it's possible that a true math fiend might spend years of his live waiting for Taxicab Number on Hardy Street to come on the market. But coming from a guy with phone number 555-1234, I have an alternative hypothesis :-) --Michael On Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 10:35 AM, Simon Plouffe <simon.plouffe@gmail.com>wrote:

Kevin Brown is clearly smart enough to know how to put a CAPTCHA challenge on his website (like I do, see mrob.com/main-contact) but he fails to do so. Therefore he is deliberately isolating himself from the world, and we should probably just pretend he does not exist. (However, his creations are still subject to copyright protection and should be acknowledged in the standard way, using references, footnotes and fair use quotations.) Go rent the movie "Good Will Hunting", and if you still don't get it, try watching "A Beautiful Mind". Then be thankful you aren't afflicted with the same condition. Kevin Brown is probably living the least miserable life that is possible for him under the circumstances, and we should be thankful that his creations are available to us, albeit in read-only form. - Robert Munafo (who personally knows a little of such things himself) On Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 10:49, Michael Kleber <michael.kleber@gmail.com> wrote:

In www.numericana.com/fame/#brown, an interesting remark on these hundreds of pages: www.mathpages.com doesn't feature a single EXTERNAL link! As you said, a read-only website. And also a standalone website. I corresponded with Kevin about 15 years ago. He told me that he was an engineer at Boeing. Maybe you could track him down there. Victor Sent from my iPhone On Feb 18, 2011, at 2:00 AM, "Christian Boyer" <cboyer@club-internet.fr> wrote:

Thanks for the various private answers. Some of you exchanged some emails with him, but in every case, it was more than ten years ago. His old email addresses are no more working. (Temporary?) conclusion: today, Kevin Brown seems impossible to reach. And doesn't want to be contacted, unfortunately.
