[math-fun] Poincare's Conjecture
I think I have proved this, and I am looking for a respectable journal to publish it. Does anyone on this list have any suggestions? I live in the UK and would prefer a UK based journal although this is not a requirement. Well, my suggestion is that you don't risk making a fool of yourself by sending it to any journal before you've found a competent friend to look over it. The problem is a subtle one, and there have been quite a few experienced topologists who've thought they'd proved it, but had to retract (in some cases, quite embarrassingly). Of course it is possible that you've succeeded where they failed, but it's much more likely that your supposed proof contains one of the standard subtle errors. Best wishes, John Conway
Thanks. I haven't yet resolved the actual maths involved, but I have discovered a new way of looking at topological spaces which reduces the problem to a far simpler one, and also enhances the general subject matter considerably. If I ever get round to writing it up, I'll let you know.
