[math-fun] Chess variant
Has anyone proposed (and is there a name for) a variant of chess in which each player proposes two possible moves (s)he could make and the other player decides which of the two will be played? Jim Propp
there is a variant called "veto chess". on each move, the opponent is allowed to veto one choice of move. this is not quite the same game, since you can/should sometimes try to use your second choice of move first, hoping it is vetoed. games tend to be interesting, with pieces hanging that you can't take. alas, there are a lot of ties unless one player makes a serious blunder. we would play blitz veto, encouraging someone to do just that. erich On Jan 16, 2015, at 9:12 PM, James Propp wrote:
