[math-fun] Brought to me by Google news: "Nigerian solves 156-yr-old Riemann mathematics hypothesis"
"Dr. Enoch had previously designed a Prototype of a silo for peasant farmers and also discovered a scientific technique for detecting and tracking someone on an evil mission." http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/nigerian-solves-156-yr-old-riemann-mathem... -- Thane Plambeck tplambeck@gmail.com http://counterwave.com/
Sadly, even the BBC believes it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03891wc The only paper I can find is one where someone claiming to be Dr. Enoch uploaded Werner Raab's paper. http://www.academia.edu/1188935/Proof_of_the_Riemann_hypothesis On Mon, Nov 16, 2015 at 10:07 PM, Thane Plambeck <tplambeck@gmail.com> wrote:

At least at the moment, the BBC story reads only as follows (not counting a 3-minute audio recording of said professor bloviating): ----- Nigerian professor claims to solve 150 year old maths problem Has a maths problem, which has gone more than 150 years without a solution, finally been solved by Nigerian academic Dr. Opeyemi Enoch? The Riemann Hypothesis was first proposed by Bernhard Riemann in 1859. If it is confirmed that he is the first person to provide a solution, Dr. Enoch could scoop a million dollar prize. (The interview was conducted with Dr Enoch on the basis that his solution is correct and that he has won the prize. ----- —Dan
I'm more concerned about: "Three of the problems had been solved and the prizes given to the winners. This makes it the fourth to be solved of all the seven problems." I thought only Poincaré had been resolved so far, and that the winner (Grigori Perelman) actually *declined* the prize. -- APG.
