Combinatorial game theory has been applied to Go (see Berlekamp and Wolfe's book "Mathematical Go: Chilling Gets the Last Point") and chess (see Elkies' article "On numbers and endgames: Combinatorial game theory in chess endgames", arXiv:math/9905198). Has it ever been applied to checkers? Jim
