Thank you for the pedantic remark in the figure 2: "The golden spiral is a patchwork made up of quarter-circles. (Strictly speaking the golden spiral is a smoothed out version of this curve, so no pedantic comments below please!)" (To quote a T-shirt I once saw: "I'm not pompous. I'm pedantic. There's a difference.") And thanks for the rest of the article as well. It reminds me of the work of mathematician-artist Douglas McKenna, who has looked at subdivisions of rectangles based on algebraic numbers other than the golden ratio (the ones I saw used colorings of the rectangles, not spirals).
