Meanwhile, those of us who can compute can hardly victor@idaccr.org | be expected to keep writing papers saying 'I can do the CCR, Princeton, NJ | following useless calculation in 2 seconds', and indeed 08540 USA | what editor would publish them?" -- Oliver Atkin

I have a copy of that book (my copy) , it is in PDF format and OCRized. I did it for myself and posted the result on Kazaa but as you may know to do so is illegal since there are copyrights. That person will get into trouble to post a copyrighted book on the open like that, no ? Simon Plouffe

NIST is planning to update A&S and post it on the web. http://dlmf.nist.gov/ There is also mention of publishing a book. I hope they avoid the quagmire associated with the CRC Encyclopedia of Mathematics. Gene Salamin __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! As I understand it, the Handbook of Mathematical Functions is a work by the United States government and therefore in the public domain. (If you check the "copyright page" you will find publication information, but no claim of copyright.)

As long as the work is done by/for NIST, I don't think there could be a similar problem. -- Fred W. Helenius <fredh@ix.netcom.com>
