[math-fun] Applicants fail Williams Formula 1 math test
FYI -- I guess it would be fruitless to ask about differential equations. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/jobs/9638334/Williams-F1-struggling-to-fi... E.g., 1. 44 + 12 + 35 = ? 2. 735 - 576 = ? 3. 7523 x 8 = ? 4. 7713 / 9 = ? 5. 2 + 3 = ? 6. Write 0.3 as a fraction 7. The square of 7 is = ? 8. The cube of 2 is = ? 9. What is 11% of 250 = ? 10. Increase 64 by 12.5% = ? 11. Find the value of x^2 + 2xy + y^2 where x = 6 and y = -3 12. 5/16 / 1/8 = ? 13. If log 3 = 0.4771 and log 4 = 0.6020, log 40 = ? 14. If log 3 = 0.4771 and log 4 = 0.6020, log 0.12 = ? 15. The cube root of 27 is = ?
The answer they give for question 14 seems wrong to me. I belive the expected answer should be -.9209 (i.e. log(3) + log(4) - log(100)), but they give -.92, which seems very odd to me - they tell you what values to use, presumably intending for you to use the given precision, then arbitrarily drop two digits from the result?
