Dario's site originally used Java. He has been converting it to Javascript over the last year or two because of the increased difficulty getting browsers to work with Java. Some parts are not yet available in Javascript, including MPQS for his factoring app. He has a thread on mersenneforum.org describing his progress in conversion. As others have noted, this site does not use Java. It uses JavaScript. Most web sites rely on it these days. If you have disabled it, just re-enable it. JavaScript is not a plugin, but is built directly into the browser. As such, it has direct access to the DOM for the web page, which a plugin does not.
Java and JavaScript have no direct relationship. The name JavaScript was merely a regrettable last-minute marketing choice made by NetScape.

They say that Java is obsolete(?) and I should do something that I don't understand:( I use Win XP and Win10 if it matters.
