It is being done. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-00973-x Our local paper reported on how this will be done statewide, noting the obvious benefits if the project should "bear fruit." The local orchards are having trouble getting workers, surely.

Testing sewage has already been proposed, but for some reason, it still hasn't been done yet.
