Out of curiousity, what has the big math news been, in the various fields? I can split out various things. 1. Huge results. A field of math changes. 2. Nice results. Everyone in that field should know about the result. 3. New experiment results. Someone tries something that should have been tried earlier. Euler was the master of these. 4. For The Book results. A known result is proved again, but in an exceptionally clever way (something for what Erdos called The Book). 5. Explainable results. It may not be that great, but it's easily explained to non experts, and is still interesting. Are there any 2-5 items that haven't been mentioned here, but are causing conversions among mathematicians in some speciality? --Ed
