Suppose you have a number like x = 23.10344790942054161603405404332559813830280000528214 ... (The first 50 decimal places of the sum of an infinite series). I'd like to "analyze" this number. What kinds of tests are available to tell whether x is rational, irrational, algebraic (or not), related to well-known constants, etc? If x = P/Q, a lower bound on Q is the denominator of the "last" continued fraction convergent for x, right? Bob Baillie
