Side windows don't have a plastic core, only windshields. The windshield has a plastic core so that objects won't penetrate. The other glass in a car is tempered glass which, when it breaks, shatters into small chunks. This makes is safe to break a side window to escape the car in an emergency. If you wear polarizing sun glasses you can see the stress pattern in the glass. Brent Meeker
