To my surprise, I managed to find an online Danish dictionary that lets you hear the word: https://da.forvo.com/search/gruk/da/ Turn on your speakers, and click on the hollow blue triangle immediately to the left of the word "gruk". Tom James Propp writes:
How is the work "grook" (coined by Piet Hein) supposed to be pronounced?
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grook, it's spelled "gruk" in Danish, and http://www.pronunciationguide.info/Danish.html says that a Danish "u" is pronounced like the "u" in the American word "put", so I'm guessing that "grook" rhymes with "book" and not "spook".
Am I right?
Thanks,
Jim Propp
