I just got back from Gathering for Gardner 6. I saw lots of squares and sixes. I get back, and I learn that Shigeyoshi has packed squares of size 1-23 in a 66x66 square. This provides a counterexample to one of Neil Sloane's original sequences -- one he got from Martin Gardner and R K Guy. The solution is on my front page. http://www.mathpuzzle.com/ It's mind-blowing for anyone that has worked on these problems. --Ed Pegg Jr.
