A positive path can be interpreted as a ballot between two candidates, in which the winner is always in the lead. See Feller vol I .
Incidentally, what has "Re: [math-fun] math-fun Digest, Vol 126, Issue 14" got to do with "Extending ballot numbers / Catalan triangle" ?
Warren gets one email per day from the list containing all the posts for that day. This is why his responses never thread correctly: there's no email for him to respond to. Rather than get the digest (I tried that for a couple of weeks), I set up a filter to label all the math-fun messages and archive them; then I look at the label once a day. -- Mike Stay - metaweta@gmail.com http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~mike http://reperiendi.wordpress.com
