Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, North and South Dakota are divided between Central and Mountain time zones. In many cases, the split causes a time zone to have either a more-easternmost or a more-westernmost piece than it probably would have had without the split. Does anyone know why so many states seem to have split time zones without apparent reason? —Dan
