Minor historical correction ...
I didn't start the math-fun list. It was started within Symbolics (c. 1990?).
I think earlier. Unfortunately, a lot of my old mail got left on Macsyma Inc's main file server when I hastily departed.
I took it over around 1992, and moved it to cs.arizona.edu. People inside Symbolics get the startup credit. Gosper? Rich
The only moderator I remember is Allan Wechsler. --rwg PS, Thanks to Jason for pointing out that someone named redmartian has YouTubed my Vintage Computer Festival talk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpgA2oCQj9o (et 5 seq) (audio is marginal--nil at the end.)

David,
Thanks for your info re the two circle-packing problems. This is tricky stuff; it seemed like there was a simple argument showed they are equivalent.
As for your problem with getting your posts posted in math-fun, the person to contact about that is Rich at <rschroe@sandia.gov>, who is the list's founder and manager.
Good luck.
