Let me have another go! I'll try to get 9 rounds for 10+10 players. Design a round-robin for the ladies: AJ BI CH DG EF AB CJ DI EH FG AC DB EJ FI GH AD EC FB GJ HI AE FD GC HB IJ AF GE HD IC JB AG HF IE JD BC AH IG JF BE CD AI JH BG CF DE then pair them with the men, playing the same round-robin, but changing ends (partners) Aj.Ja Bi.Ib Ch.Hc Dg.Gd Ef.Fe Ab.Ba Cj.Jc Di.Id Eh.He Fg.Gf Ac.Ca Db.Bd Ej.Je Fi.If Gh.Hg ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... Ai.Ia Jh.Hj Bg.Gb Cf.Fc De.Ed --- does that work?? Note that Abigail still abhors abraham, etc. R. On Sun, 18 Jan 2004, Richard Guy wrote:

It's clear that each of the 2m men can oppose at most 2m - 1 others, so there can't be more than 2m - 1 rounds.
The men, considered separately, play a round-robin tournament, as do the women. Ways of constructing such tournaments are well known.
