A certain R. Guy sent me a chapter form his book on EF's today (for which I wish to say thanks). One of the unsolved conjectures was that if x/y is rational, that x/y = sum{i=1,n,1/a_i}, where n is finite and each a_i is minimal. It struck me that the rule could be altered, e.g. say a_1 is minimal, a_2 is minimal+1, etc... Or any other variation of the rules.... Does this alter the conjecture?, and can someone mathematically phrase my new conjecture?
