A little digging shows that the son is (likely) Jonathan B. Robinson who received his BA in 1964 from Wesleyan University's "College of Quantitative Studies" (from a newspaper article). I've got nothing on him thereafter but I think you may appreciate this 1950s article by Gerson that mentions his "small son's toy blocks" inspiring a search for "a cylindrical surface upon which a plank would roll in neutral equilibrium": http://steiner.math.nthu.edu.tw/disk5/js/cardioid/6.pdf
