Apparently the problem is with Word. When I paste the two matching unicode symbols for \cap and \cup into Word, one gets elongated and the other doesn't. :-( Jim On Fri, Mar 9, 2018 at 11:27 AM, Joerg Arndt <arndt@jjj.de> wrote:
Copying the symbols from the original message into Emacs and testing what they are (using M-x =) gives the code points you mention below.
They symbols look the same (apart from the flip) in various fonts. So, maybe check your font.
Now for the real shocker, "Word documents"?
Are you sure? Please select an answer below. [ ] No. [ ] Nope. [ ] Extended Nope.

I found what look like stylistically consistent union and intersection signs at code points U+2229 and U+222A. They both look like your intersection -- I can't figure out where you got your union from.

Anyone know of a good Unicode set-union symbol?
I've been using ∩ for intersection and ∪ for union in Word documents. I like the former but I find the latter too elongated.
I've checked a few places on the web but can't seem to find an upside-down ∩ .
(Is there something that does for Unicode what detexify does for tex?)
Thanks,
