I've now dowloaded and quickly scanned this paper --
by one Xian-Jin Li of Brigham Young U. -- as well as
one by Bombieri that the Li's proof of RH relies on.
I am uniquely unqualified to read this paper in any
detail, relying as it does on algebraic and analytic
number theory as well as functional analysis.
But superficially, it certainly has the aura of a serious
attempt to prove RH (unlike papers of a certain other
mathematician who will go unnamed).
This could be very exciting!
Then again, maybe not.
