Lucky bugger. Worth a packet I imagine, but not surprised Mr Matten has it.
But what can he do with it? I think it's extremely odd in the first place that Conny Plank made a copy for anyone alse but Kraftwerk. Reason to fire him, were he not deceased.
It was done for only private use and know one could imagine, taht Autobahn would be the prototype of elektropop-(music).
Secondly, I don't think Dirk Matten can do anything with the content of the tape but listen to it in private, or return it to R&F, if it's different from the final album. (Is it different, Dirk?) If it's a copy of the finally released album it's just that, but a very nice relic of course.
It sounds different with much more power, better frequency response, no single ended noise reduction. More original to the moment of playing than the final product. It was made from the original cut&paste tapes and I was in the studio, when Conny Plank did his job. What is this worth? Each "piece of art" which goes to a museum, must have an insurance. Any ideas? As a long time buyer of anything Conny Plank was involved with, I would love to hear any anecdotes Mr. Matten would care to share. John McIntyre Physics - Astronomy Domine Dept Michigan State University mcintyre@pa.msu.edu

What makes me think of a Kraftwerk museum, if it doesn't exist yet (I don't think so) it would be rather interesting that one will be constructed. DER AUTOMAT
I propose a Kraftwerk Museum on the Mall in front of the World War II Monument. The veterans would love it! amir Der Automat wrote:

Suppose someone out there did want to make a Kraftwerk museum. That would require the cooperation of Ralf and Florian. Do you think they'd return the calls or answer the letters? Do you think they'd allow any pre-Autobahn material to be displayed? How about anything about Wolfgang or Karl? You can see the kinds of issues one might run into. In any case, I don't think Kraftwerk is interested in becoming a relic of the past (though perhaps many people already see them this way). Kling Klang is as much of a "museum" as they need or want! This topic reminds me of the ridiculous "Euro-Kling Klang" at the end of Pascal Bussy's book. Fat chance! -Eric
a "kraftwerk museum" ??? well ... before that happens , i would like to see a museum for one of the pioneers of electronic music , the late oscar sala & his still highly enigmatic musical instrument , the mixturetrautonium !!! however ... many greetinx , oh jay ;-) *~\^/~*
