RE: [Kraftwerk] Re: SV: Activerecord / Xmission
That's not really true - it's just a rumor started by Oh Jay to hurt the list. ... Closing the list to new members was an extreme measure forced by Oh Jay for his own purposes.
You mean the Xmission list was moderated by Oh Jay ? I thought he was the moderator of the Yahoo group only. Can you explain what you mean by "was an extreme measure forced by Oh Jay for his own purposes" ? According to what I read on the new ActiveRecord list, people that recently tryed to subscribe to the Xmission list never succeed to have their subscription activated. Personally, I subscribed 1 year ago without problem. Christophe. The opposite. :)
I thought he was the moderator of the Yahoo group only.
As I recall, he has some influence on one of the Yahoo KW lists but is not the main owner.

Cutting through all the random noise that Oh Jay produced, this is what I surmise happened. Others may disagree, and you can check the list archives to judge for yourself. Some time after Oh Jay joined the list, something (probably an off-topic thread) made him realize that the list owner, Lazlo, no longer plays an active role on the Xmission list and can take some time to resolve problems. Oh Jay was upset by this because he felt this laxity of moderation meant an evil troll could deluge the list with garbage and make it useless to everyone. Oh Jay then set out to become that very kind of troll in order to poke Lazlo into doing something about the lax moderation. He (Oh Jay) started acting in a very inflamatory manner, inciting flame wars and general off-topic unfriendliness. He actually stated on a couple of occasions that he was trying to destroy the Xmission list and get people to join the list where he was a moderator. Eventually Lazlo did step in and ban Oh Jay. Oh Jay then proceeded to rejoin the list using multiple free email accounts, and continued his antics. Eventually Lazlo changed the list setup so that join requests had to be approved by him, and evidence suggests he either has been very slow in approving them or has turned off subscription altogether. Now, I do partly agree with Oh Jay that it would be nice to have a slightly more responsive list administrator. I can't blame Lazlo because I'm sure he's very busy. Peoples' lives change over the span of years. But it would be nice if he could hand over ownership of the list to someone else if he can't do it himself. Even so, I'm angry with Oh Jay for deliberately causing trouble. The list had worked just fine for years without active moderation, and if not for Oh Jay would probably have continued just fine for years longer. He succeeded in crippling the list. It's not dead yet, but he did succeed in scaring away a number of new and medium-time members, and without new members to fuel discussion it'll get quieter over time. Anyway, the less said about it the better. I've joined this new list that has been discussed recently, but I'm also sticking to this one until such time as it disappears. I hope it will eventually be revitalized. -- /* Soleil */
