I am an electronic musician and I am deeply influenced by Kraftwerk. I am most infatuated by their use of vocoders. Apparently, they used the Sennheiser- Does anyone know in detail the story about why and how they came into adopting this specific one? It seems that this particular unit was rather expensive at the time- how did kraftwerk manage to obtain all of their equipments? Were their parents rich?

I dont know that much about Ralf's parents, but from what Ive heard they were wealthy...(Im not confirming that, youll have to someone else who knows a bit more) They also used other vocoders in their Kling Klang studios like: Roland SVC-350, Roland VP-330, Sennheiser VSM-201, EMS 2000/3000/5000 series, Synton 221 (unconfirmed). They got the Sennheiser VSM-201 in 1978 apparently... I dont know much but here is a what Ralf said (to a degree, I cant exactly remember his exact words) -- "It was a decision to buy a brand new Volkswagen or the synthesizer we wanted, thats the choice we have to make." A lot of the equipment KW bought was expensive, and its not like they had album sales of the Beatles in their prime...KW must have some rich parents, or are incredibly wise with their money and how to make more.
