Re: [Kraftwerk] Tour de France 2003 preview link
Thanks Zsolt! :) Initially I must say I'm not at all impressed, however. A really boring track! :/ Ah well, boing. Peo
There's a spanish radio preview of TdF 2003 (in mp3) on my page (thanks simonet).
Feel free to download & listen.

I agree: it is definitely Kraftwerkian, but it's nothing special. It doesn't sound like a reworking of TDF - the lyrics have the same metric, but it's almost all they've got in common. It's got a good drive, no noticeable melody (umph!), same sound textures as Expo2000. A very cold track, without *that* hint of warmth (as the "panting" in the original TDF) that defines KW music in opposition to almost all other electronica. In other words, too much machine and not enough man. I admit that I was much more thrilled, at first listening, by Boing Boom Tschak :-/ Ciao, Luca
I haven´t done a posting on this list in 5 years..but I think it is time to do that now. tour de france 2003 is quite good. I have put it on repeat on winamp and the TDF2003 grows on you.. I love it and I will buy all the new stuff that they will release. / Ulf
It starts off promising but then deteriorates into substandard tech house without proper beats. I'll side with the 'disappointed' side. I'm also disappointed. I think the original TDF 1983 version sounds more human, well, this is one of my fav KW track anyway. On Fri, 20 Jun 2003 22:43:09 +0100, Erik Jälevik wrote:

I think it's a cool track and nicely produced. It still has 'their' sound and I don't think we should dismiss it because it hasnt got a pretty melody. Respect to them for keeping an eye on the dance floor and NOT trying to regurgitate their old style. Although we will always love their old music, maybe it's time to move on and push the boundries a bit further. It's just a shame they didnt do it 10 years ago. Fair point, but it's so not keeping an eye on the dancefloor though! That beat is incredibly poor. Especially for a band that came up with the genre-defining beats of Numbers and T.E.E. But maybe it was Karl who was the beatmeister... This wouldn't matter so much if it had harmonies or melodies to make up for it. Which it sadly doesn't. Erik
Here I am, out of town for one single day and I miss the whole thing. Someone please email me (privately if you feel like it) a working link for an mp3 sample of the track! Love and kisses to the first one who can help out... =) / Petter
Thanks everyone! You've made me a lot happier. First impressions are very laptoptechnoish, with a distinct taste of Expo2000. Now if they could only start producing a track like this per week like everyone else... ;) / Petter ----- Original Message ----- From: "Petter Duvander" <petter.duvander@home.se> To: "Music, non-stop." <kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, June 21, 2003 6:06 PM Subject: Re: [Kraftwerk] Tour de France 2003 preview link

Do you mean that it doesnt have a DJ Sammy, Euro-trance style dancebeat? Depends how you dance and what to. The track wouldn't sound out of place in any techno club, where folk dance to minimalist stuff like that. The list seems quite divided on the sound of this track It looks like there's gonna be some hot discussions in the near future but I think we should wait to see what the boys have lined up for us on the album. They may still have the ability to surprise us. Shaun

No, no, I don't mean that. It's just not funky. It's too fast. The kick drum sound is really poor. And it hasn't got the drive that a good minimalist techno beat has. But I suppose it could work in a sort of metronome Neu-type way. Not as a dance beat, but more as a sort of mekanik beat. If anyone knows what I'm on about. I actually listened to it again and the looped sound grows on me, let's hope for some nice remixes... Erik
Maybe they released the weakest track on the CD. The last thing we need are the electronic versions of Kenny G!!!!!!! amir Shaun Vaughan wrote:

Well, I gotta say, I like it! It's upbeat, dancey, puts me in that frame of mind that Kraftwerk does so well. I like hearing them sing, they sound great (slightly sexy, actually!). I hate calling it feel-good, but sorry, that's what I am getting from the song. And I like it better so far than Expo 2000. The one criticism that I would have is...I expected something a bit more original sounding...the sound and the beat, while very appealing, is pretty similar to, well, a lot of other things on the radio. I will still be really happy to go out and buy this! keep on, pat __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.yahoo.com
