SV: [Kraftwerk] kRAFTWERK: then and now (and inbetween)(and over the gap)

Not the same world, and the punk emergence changed nothing in the perception around Kraftwerk music (nor in R&F's mind)... *btw* punks have never been really musicians nor artists *imho*, just ... IMHO wonderful things happened when some of the English punks f.ex. Gary Numan & John Foxx, heard KW:s music, suddenly The punks came from out of space, and Foxx even mentioned he thought Punk became all same and that it was a natural step to go electronic (punk concept: everyone can play) so I personally think there was a connection between the two music styles Filtre4Pole Wrote: ... What happened ? Nobody has ever been able to explain that spectacular mutation. It will be always a *fascinating* mystery for me ! I can't understand (after all perhaps I don't need to... After what I've heard Ralf met four Aliens called wwrekaft or someting... ;-) Regards / Johan

Yes, well... ;-) but you can find much more post-connections to Kw like this to many other music styles too... so... :-) le 22/08/2003 22:35, Oystein Moe à oyst1@hotmail.com a écrit :
They certainly must have felt more connected with the new bands from '77 onwards, than their prog contemporaries of the early 70s.
Arf! arf! :-D yeah.... are you kidding ?
Holding aside the guitars, aggression and ripped jeans for a second, there are several interesting similarities... the DIY attitude, the anti-musicianship (ie no solos), the repeated patterns, the political lyrics...
[Putting away and especially *ignore* the fundamentals (indeed, not the same world) : easy] then finding out some funny similitudes (*btw* that I don't contest ;-)) *after* the event is certainly interesting (and more amusing) for anecdotal thoughts. But building any kind of "connection theory" upon that is much bolder ...and eventually ridiculous: because people who *absolutely* (I still don't see why) want to put Kraftwerk and the punks into the same bag must have forgotten (or mistaken...) some major facts: Kraftwerk are subtle *elite* electro avant-garde artists of all time, when punks were just... temporal rock'n punk and jerks! ;-)) Please, how do you want to "compare/connect"? (considering *of course* that: 1/ post-influences which are everywhere couldn't seriously argue here... 2/ time coincidence may be purely incidental) If punk challenged the rock world, by subverting and flouting conventional rules (mainly in the UK...), it eventually and definitely changed nothing around Kraftwerk *plain fact*. (*imho* every K'fan at least *should* know that ;-)) pff! *sigh* Maybe, perhaps, but sure Kraftwerk have nothing to do with the punks ! ;-) _ /o o\ Filtre4Pole \ ~ / I I - -
