New subscriber/Kraftwerk on Swedish TV
Hello fellow Kraftwerk fans Despite having been a Kraftwerk fan for the best part of my life, I somehow haven't found this list until now. I'm Swedish by birth but live in England, and a few days ago I heard from a friend in Sweden that there had been a special 30-minute program on Kraftwerk on Swedish TV (which I saw was briefly discussed here). I've now finally got hold of a copy of the program and I would just like to say that I thought it was a very well-made program. Not much in the way of new info, unsurprisingly, even though the interviews with Wolfgang and Karl were obviously specially made for the program and very interesting. Wolfgang gave a much better impression on camera than he did in his book... What really impressed me was that they had everyone from Stockhausen to Björk to Peter Saville (one of the best designers of all time) commenting on Kraftwerk. Peter Saville was saying that Kraftwerk's imagery and design was by far the most important influence for his groundbreaking work with Factory. It seemed they had interviewed a fair number of people for this, just a shame we didn't get to hear more from them. Also included was the footage from, I think, the Showroom Dummies video (correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't managed to get hold of this video) where Kraftwerk is dancing. What a great sight! :) If anyone's interested, I've got the program as an MPEG (300MB though). Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking part in this list as I still take a very active interest in all things Kraftwerk. And please just shout at me if I bring anything up which has already been discussed to death and I'll shut up. Cheers, Erik

Welcome to the list, Erik!
Kraftwerk. Peter Saville was saying that Kraftwerk's imagery and design was by far the most important influence for his groundbreaking work with Factory.
I've not heard of this Factory. What groundbreaking work is that?

I'm definitely interested, but how can I get such a large file from you? Do you have an FTP? -- /* Soleil */

DITTO_!!! ;-)

fyi : factory rec. was joy division's & new order's ol' record label & peter saville has designed all their covers etc. !!! ;-) however ... many greetinx , oh jay ;-) *~\^/~*
Pink's "Get The Party Started" CD-Maxi features a "Werk Kraft (sic!) Remix", but has definitly nothing to do with Kraftwerk... Gruesse aus Wien, Georgie
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Factory Records was a record label from Manchester, founded in the late 70s and responsible for bands like Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays. Pretty much all their record sleeves and promotional material was designed by Peter Saville in a very striking and ahead-of-its-time minimal style.
I'm definitely interested, but how can I get such a large file from you? Do you have an FTP?
I've had several people emailing me about a copy and I'd be happy to supply one, but I don't have an ftp server of my own. However, I'm uploading the file to a server belonging to another member of the list right now, and he promised to sort out an anonymous login for others who'd like to download it. If anyone's got any live, TV, or interview videos in return, I'd be very interested in them. Erik

Oh, never mind my previous request then (unless you still have the inclination, time and bandwidth to put it on my server as well). -- E m a n u e l M a i r ________________________________________ e@mair.com mair@medstud.gu.se Procul, o procul este, profani! http://medstud.gu.se/~mair * t e a m A M I G A * .-. .- -.. .. --- -....- .- -.- - .. ...- .. - .-.- - ...-.-

Välkommen!

Upload it to my anon. FTP server at amiga.medicinareberget.studenthem.gu.se, port 10000, and I'll put it up on a reasonably fast HTTP server. -- E m a n u e l M a i r ________________________________________ e@mair.com mair@medstud.gu.se Procul, o procul este, profani! http://medstud.gu.se/~mair * t e a m A M I G A * .-. .- -.. .. --- -....- .- -.- - .. ...- .. - .-.- - ...-.-

Well, if you don't speak Swedish you're obviously going to miss out on some of what's being said but all the interviews with Karl, Wolfgang and other people are in English with Swedish subtitles so no problem there. If you have the bandwidth and you're interested in hearing Karl and Wolfgang being interviewed, then I'd recommend it. Cheers, Erik
I saw it on TV. Im not an expert on KW, but is it really so that Ralf & Florian are assholes insinuated by Wolfgang?. Or are both parties just in a big tiff? --- Erik_Jälevik <erik@tinyonline.co.uk> skrev: > > If so how is it?!?!? This seems like quite a

It certainly seems like Ralf and Florian hates Wolfgang for no apparent reason. But all I've got to base my opinion on is Wolfgang's book "I Was a Robot" in which he describes the lawsuit they brought against him and the way they won't speak to him any longer. Seems a bit strange, I have to say. On the other hand, I thought Wolfgang came across as quite a naive person in the book. I don't know, maybe it was just the poor English translation, but some of the things he writes about and the way he explains them just makes you think "how old is this guy?". And in view of that, I can understand why R&F didn't give him too many responsibilities within the group, or allowed him to take part in interviews etc. But he seems a genuinely nice bloke; and in the TV program he does come across as really likeable. What are the opinions of the more knowledgeable of you out there? Erik
people usually tend to forget that the "classical" kw line-up was ralf & florian ( a.k.a. the nucleus ;-) plus the 3 ( !!! ) "helpin' hands" or contributors / assistants ( call them however u like ;-) karl , wolfgang & emil !!! ;-) ralf can be descibed as "the god-like mastermind" , florian as "the humorous technician" , karl as "the underrated talent" , wolfgang as "the nice guy" & emil as "the artist" !!! ;-) ... & if u like to incl. fritz & henning , u can certainly describe fritz as "the jack-of-all-trades" & henning as "the quiet engineer" !!! ;-) 'nuff said for now ... good night , y' all !!! :-) however ... greetinx , oh jay ;-) *~\^/~*
I think my boy Flur was a rampant womanizer and creeped on Florian and Ralf's girls more than once. I bet it boils down to women. amir Erik Jälevik wrote:

Ha ha, that's quite an amusing interpretation. Could that have been the case? :) Having read the book though, I wouldn't want to describe him as a "rampant womanizer". Or maybe he's playing it down... Erik
