10 Speed and the German Kwk CDs
Hi, Sorry I lost the plot a while back, the sun has been out for a couple of days. However, since the "Origin of Hip Hop" discussion has shown the impressive attention span of subscribers to this list, some of you may still be interested in the cover version of Tour De France by 10 Speed. Back in the day (1990?), an American Kraftwerk fan name of Joe Schepis made an attempt (pre internet, guys) to make a complete Kraftwerk discography, including cover versions. According to his list, 10 Speed's version of TDF was also issued as a single, with various versions of the track. It's a quite good cover IIRC, although I haven't played it in at least ten years. Us kids used to break dance to it. Heard that before I heard the original. Ah well. xxx And the German versions of the albums are to be found at www.infrarot.de, also a good shop for other modern electronic music. And gothic rock, if that should be of interest. If I may be pedantic, that's "pre-Web", rather than "pre-Internet", but anyhow...
to make a complete Kraftwerk discography, including cover versions.
Many years ago the "Kraftwerk Infobahr" Web site (long since defunct, but I'm sure many of you will remember that pioneering Scandinavian site...) hosted a cover versions discography I was working on. I gave up maintaining it due to apparent lack of interest, yet for years after people (mostly nerds who ignored the "no longer maintained" notice) would send me unsolicited updates... so there is probably a "market" for a cover versions discography, should anyone wish to start a themed Web site? Of course, Lazlo's discography includes cover versions, but you can imagine how many updates to that have been made in recent years.

Yes, that's right.
It's a quite good cover IIRC
It's certainly very authentic to the Kraftwerk style. Kevin

----------------- I doubt if Capitol Records (Right Stuff Records, Hollywood) would release a near-perfect fake version of one of its own artists' hits, but record companies have a constant tendency to surprise me. Didn't somebody on the list post this link to a Courtney Love speech slamming the industry? http://www.goodnightkiss.com/CourtneyLove.html The controversial singer takes on record label profits, Napster and "sucka VCs." amir
10 Speed's "version" that I play of TDF all the time sounds exactly like the single released in America. Wasn't the original released on Capitol Records in the States? Right Stuff records in Hollywood is under Capitol, too. I hope to upload an mp3 to Marcelo Figueroa's server, as well as a scan of the "Free To Be" cover.
