KW Likelihood of forthcoming releases
Hi all, It's astounding how quickly the list turned to shite after what was a good period (before, during and after the recent KW live shows). I remember my first posting at the beginning of this year. I got this really hyper-sensitive and babyish reaction from Oh Jay. He had some credible things to say and I respected his views at the time but man, this guy obviously lacks the maturity to 'not take people and their scribblings at FACE VALUE'. A list like this is meant to be a place where you can sound off if you want but Jesus, I do not expect every single thing I say to be scrutinized and put into a wider context. So shut the fuck up Oh Jay, OK? lay low for a while, all you seem to do is criticize and think of negative things to say about people's suggestions and ideas. If a guy said that he spoke to Florian, and a new album may be in the pipeline, well MAYBE IT IS. There's no need to shout them down and adopt a bisbelieving tone. My second posting was to inform fellow subscribers that I had bought tickets to the Paris shows. Just to inform everyone about the PROCESS which may have been helpful. Oh Jay comes out with - I still don't believe these concerts will actually take place until I hear it from EMI/Sony themselves. Keep listening out dude. Right, I will not respond to any flame return mail - let me make that clear - that is how to avoid shitemail. As for a new album, and I have no sound basis or evidence on which to base this let me make that clear; Is it not LIKELY, given the wonderful use of digital sound at recent KW shows, that we are really due for a KW live double vinyl, cd and 5.1 DVD incorporating their classics and perhaps 2,3 or 4 new songs but within the 'live' context. I will put money on the fact that they will not use any recordings made during the Paris shows BECAUSE HARDLY ANYONE WAS DANCING AND THE ATMOSPHERE AMONGST THE CROWD SUCKED! To get the list back to some level of interest, does anyone have any reports from the Luxembourg show. Did it actually take place? What's the story there? _ _

You have this reaction very commonly in Paris. French can't dance. It's so common, that for exemple, for the recording of a play or a concert, usually they do it in Belgium or in Switzerland where the public is a "good" public. which one of the 3 are you talking about? Denis D)
OK, no chance of doing a "live" DVD, but what about a DVD itself? An interactive one at that as well? We've seen with the website, although it is extremely minimal, that you can play around with sounds. Perhaps they might release a DVD with 2 hours of material on there with the videos from the live shows. I know this is pure speculation, but when you consider that Kraftwerk's appeal is the on the level of "Gesamtkunstwerk", i.e both visual and aural levels, DVD is now the optimum format in which to release material, and that's why they've not done videos before, because of the poor sound quality of VHS etc. They take such care with their appearance at live shows, that I can't see why the same logic can't be applied here. ----- Original Message ----- From: <anthony.ristic@btopenworld.com> To: <kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, October 10, 2002 1:53 PM Subject: [Kraftwerk] KW Likelihood of forthcoming releases

You're damn right - the idea of an entire DVD filled with KW data is really enticing and I'm sure Ralf is concerned about perpetuating his work and allowing others to "play" with KW music. An interactive DVD (let's make it a DVD box set for good measure) would be the ideal medium. Given their attitude at "refining" their current tracks instead of composing new ones, I think that such a release is a tad more likely to happen than an entire new album. Ciao, Luca

I'm not quite sure about that, even it would be a charming idea. But we all know: They are presenting their pieces nowadays as a kind of repertory plays (they call it "work in progress", I presume), and concerning remixes they seem to be ticklish. AFAIK, they never gave away the control; each one of the official remixes circulating around has their blessing. I remember that Yello did this some years ago, but it's hardly imaginable to me that KW will ever give their material to other hands without having any possibility to control the results. -jan -- feel free to visit http://www.jan-reetze.de __________________________________________________________________ Gesendet von Yahoo! I don't think this is about remixing. It's about, like with the website, allowing the user to almost "make their own tracks". Bussy's book mentioned something about that near the end, in that in the future, people would be able to take the sounds that Kraftwerk had and use them themselves. The website seems to be an embryonic representation of that ideal. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan R. <dasfestistzuendeaus@yahoo.de> To: Kraftwerk Mailing List <kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 12:21 PM Subject: Re: [Kraftwerk] KW Likelihood of forthcoming releases

Yes, I seem to remember the quotation in Bussy's book - I don't have it right now - it was something about the durability of art and the immortality of KW sounds... BTW when I met Ralf during the "Mix" tour, he told me that they had spent a lot of time transferring all their sound to digital media. I politley (and cheekily) asked for a KlingKlang DataDump - he smiled and told me "not now, but maybe in the future...." Hope, hope! It sure would be cool to have the raw instrument samples direct from Kling Klang. -- /* Soleil */

This remark is not up-to-date: lots of sampler-addict-"artists" currently use Kraftwerk sounds... since the mid-80's..!! ;-) And please, don't believe ALL that Bussy wrote in his book! ;-) Beside many funny and interesting anecdotes and info, Bussy's book contains too much misunderstanding and mistakes. Though I really enjoyed to read it, I think sometimes this book is not very serious - especially about the "speculation-topics" like: Q:"why was 'Technopop' cancelled?" A:"because KW were 'outpaced'(!) and lost in techno-equipment..." *rotflol* btw: I can forgive P. Bussy, - those things he can't understand - he's not a musician, only a journalist...;-) ...maybe, perhaps, _ /o o\ Filtre4Pole \ ~ / I I - -
