This is making me smile... so I thought I'd share. Have you heard that Mike Batt (Of Wombles fame).. is being taken to court because of his track "One Minutes Silence" on his Planets LP. It appears that some folk think he has copied excerpts from John Cages 4'33" (that is 4 mins and 33 secs of silence). If you go to http://macdonald.butterworths.co.uk/news/GetArticle.asp?NewsID=1831 you'll get one article of many that can be found on the net at this time. In a recent radio interview Mike Batt pointed out that it wasn't the same. In an example he stated that his "One Minutes Silence" has 3 changes of tempo! I laughed...... Better keep them away from Boards of Canada's Geogaddi! The 1:46 of "Magic Window" is even *closer* to "4:33"! -Eric

Nah, that has a completely different beat *and* melody. :) I think John Cage is probably thinking "I rest my case" at this point. Whatever statement he intended with his piece has been accidentally amplified and echoed by his label's landsharks. -- /* Soleil */
