I like putting on the headphones and cranking up Computer World. While some argue that it isn't innovative by KW's standards, it is lush with layers of soft sounds. I still think that style of electronic music was ahead of its time when you listen closely to tracks like Computer World II, Computer Love, and Numbers. (How did they record that machine-gun barrage of German numbers at the end of the song? Talk about lots of editing!)
does anyone nows bartos interpretation of "computerlove"? you can hear it on the köln-live-bootleg or the arvika-bootlegs.... i like it much more than the new version or the englisch version of 81... how do you think about bartos solotour with the kraftwerk- material? regards, arthur -------------------------------------- www.network81.com www.arthur-brehm.de www.klanghof.de www.duesselklang.de

His version of 'Computer Love' is great (especially the ending), but on his vesion of 'The Robots', its kind ofhard having to hear him say 'Ja Tvoi Sluga...' Signed, omegaChance http://www.mp3.com/omegaChance
*harrharr* a few month ago, i had a friend of mine here from russia... we listened to an kraftwerk-bootleg from 81...when ralf was singing "ja tvoi sluga"... he grined and told me, that everyone will be shot, wo has this kind of dialect *rofl* i love the entire cologne-show from karl. i think, he did a great job... i've got this show completely on vhs-cassette... maybe i put it on video-cd... -------------------------------------- www.network81.com www.arthur-brehm.de www.klanghof.de www.duesselklang.de ----- Original Message ----- From: "omegaChance" <omegaChance@firemail.de> To: <kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, June 07, 2002 5:06 PM Subject: Re: [Kraftwerk] computerlove sung by bartos

that´s rightyright. if you mix kraftwerk´s music as a dj you will notice, that lots of their songs (i.e. computerwelt, it´s more fun to compute and tour de france) have severe rhythmleaps. so you always have to slow down or push up the record speed. this is because the music is so heavy edited, surprisingly enough not very clean, if you refer to the speed of the music. stay tuned NUC2001

if you mix numbers (german version), you have to put your finger to the plate to slow it down for a 1/4 sec, because the beat starts too early. the main track has the same speed like the counting in the beginning, but the gap (pause) between the counting and the first basssound is too small. the same with ´it´s more fun to compute´ (german version): you mix it in, the computer sings ´it´s more fun to compute´ four times, then the interlude with enhanced basssound, again the computervoice and then you have to put your finger to the record to slow it down for 1/4 sec, because the psycadelic sequence starts too early. if you (or at least if I (perhaps i mix that bad)) mix tour de france you always have to push to and pull fro the beatshifter of the mkII because the verse (with ralf singing) has a little different speed than the interludes with the bicycle sounds. if you think of kw working in the studio recording several takes for the songs and afterward cutting the recording tape and glue the bits together again to finish the song and giving it structure, then it makes sense what i say. i mean they were not pushing a button and the whole song went out of the machines, it´s a lot of afterproduction and cutting in their songs. stay tuned NUC2001

Ah, that's a relief to hear! I had great trouble trying to mix that track (contender for my all time favourite Kraftwerk track ever) with some other electro and suspected it wasn't entirely steady. Well, now I know it wasn't just me. ;) Erik

Try headphones with Side One of Electric Cafe. You'll find layers of the same notes played but each time tweaked with a different synthed effect, like different colors of the rainbow for the ear every couple of seconds. This magic happens after the vocals end in Track 2, when it's all instrumental halfway through the song; the layers of the same notes raining down but chimed differently each time. Kinda hard to explain, but it just confirmed that KW did their homework. amir volvo1971@att.net wrote:

They have this great talent for programming sounds that you hardly ever hear or never really hear anyone else use!!! I mean..... don't get me wrong because if you're really into synth programming you can come really close on some sounds...... however that's one of the things that separate them from the other bands/artists!!! ;) BTW...... the term you're looking for Amir to describe KW's sounds is "modulations"!!!!! ;) Well, it's one of them anyway........ along with awesome!!! ;) Regards, Christian Claycomb UniQue Werkx http://www.ampcast.com/uniquewerkx http://www.mp3.com/christianac http://www.soundclick.com/bands/uniquewerkx_music.htm http://stage.vitaminic.co.uk/unique_werkx/

============ Thanks! The *modulations* are awesome halfway through Track 2 of Electric Cafe. I'm about to retire in one hour with Electric Cafe and a pair of high-end Sony headphones... amir
