I don't know if "Pour l'épreuve de vérité" could be translated as 'when the chips are down'. Anyway, for those it concerns, here's my translation into English: TOUR DE FRANCE radio tour information transmission television reports on motorcycles video and photo cameras the teams are presented the departure is given the stages are passed very quickly and the race is going TOUR DE FRANCE the runners timed for the the race of truth the mountain, the valleys the large queues, the processions the red flag overtaken yellow jersey on arrival radio tour information transmission television TOUR DE FRANCE radio tour information transmission television reports on motorcycles video and photo cameras DER AUTOMAT

fff! mmhh hum ...well, no thanks ;-) On reflection, the *could be improved(?)* 'mix'-translation quoted by Electram is anyway far better... ;-) (sorry mate! :-/) Maybe, perhaps, _ /o o\ Filtre4Pole \ ~ / I I - -

Shame on me! Err... "For the test of truth"; "When the time comes", then? I'm sorry, I don't really know. I haven't got a clue of French.

I agree. Except for the line "The stages are passed away".
(sorry mate! :-/)
Do not sorry, I didn't go for bust. It's yet another in a long series of attempts to avoid responsibility. :-)
And the race is under way (is launched?)
...is underway
IMO 'under way' is more accurate.
The great passes(large queues?) , the defiles
???? NOT "large queues" please! *curious idea*
'les grands cols' is not something like 'the big peaks'? DER AUTOMAT

Yes, indeed. And I have explained why the "étapes brûlées"-joke is (too much) *hard* to translate... ;-) *sigh*
'les grands cols' is not something like 'the big peaks'?
No... it's just something like 'the great cols' :-) *btw* "peak" = "crête", "un col" is a *high* pass between mountains, (it isn't necessarily an "absolute summit")... A french *col* is the samething *for instance* like an italian *passo* and a spanish *alto* or *puerto*... ;-) Maybe, perhaps, _ /o o\ Filtre4Pole \ ~ / I I - -
