hi there, i´ve listened to the new album 7 to 10 times now (´bought it yesterday and paid ridiculous 9,99 Euros for it) and i must say that "tour de france soundtracks" is quite boring. the album´s name says what you have to expect. the 12 new pieces of music are more tracks than songs. the problem is that they are somewhere between song-structure and track-structure without hitting the point. yes, the pieces are very well elaborated, minimal and crystal clear sounding, but i fear that kraftwerk of nowadays are the "knobtwisters" that they were called back in the 70ies when they were a fantastic (techno-)pop band, who wrote great hits. if i listen to the older albums there are plenty of nice tunes that you can sing along, but these tunes are missing on "tdf st". the predominant aspects of the album are perfect timed effects and filters and a state of the art production technique, but imo it´s produced to death. i dunno if this is because karl and wolfgang left the band and nowadays kraftwerk are not able to write good melodies any more, or because ralf and florian want to approach the club and dancefloor-scene and give away the pop-band image. nevertheless the melodies on "tdf st" are silly and boring, and this is the reason why the whole album is. this is no techno, this is no pop; no revolutionary new sounds, no hits, this is ordinary electronica. i´m sorry that i feel like that but the 17 years waiting made me nuts. stay tuned NUC2001
I couldn't have said it better. It's beginning to become quite obvious that the Kraftwerk we all love owe very much to Karl and Wolfgang, as opposed to just being the third and fourth guys. More Karl than Wolfgang I believe; that guy is really gifted. This album means about as much to me as Kraftwerk 2, which I always believed to be complete rubbish. (I love KW1 and R&F though :) But hey, maybe, perhaps. Yes. Boing! Well, maybe Karl is missing... (and Wolfgang *who?* certainly not) BUT *btw* I don't think that any "lack of great melodies" has something to do with the fact those two former members are not there: Don't forget the FINE melodies on the Autobahn album... :-) an album without Bartos... (and just Flür's name and portrait on the sleeve *hehe*)
This album means about as much to me as Kraftwerk 2,
oups!!! pas possible??!!?? ok, :-/ mmhh... then I'll not buy it.... *gag* ;-)
But hey, maybe, perhaps. Yes.
Why ? maybe, perhaps, No. ;-) _ /o o\ Filtre4Pole \ ~ / I I - -
hi there, i bought the tdf 03 vinyl yesterdayand i have to say that it sounds strange. it sounds as if someone in the mastering studio has put the record-level a bit too high. for instance the whispering sound ( the "shushushushushu") on "elektrokardiogramm" is quite distorted, the stereo chain- rattling on the remix version of tdf 83 as well. it sounds like you have recorded the tdf CD on minidisc and then burned it on vinyl. it might be that my concorde-needles are not the newest but i don´t have that phenomenon of distortion with my other records. on the other hand the record is very heavy and high qualitiy vinyl. any comments/ experiences on that topic? stay tuned NUC2001
