Does anyone know about cds with a black (rather than the usual silver) playing side...what's the technology here. I thought they were blank, but they do play very well!. Just found one from Taiwan (?) for Computer World. It comes from the same pressing plant as regular Taiwan cds. The artwork for the sleeve is an exact copy of the original, while the inside booklet is much more colorful. The only other 'black-backed' CD the seller had was one for Iggy Pop's Raw Power (sound quality is excellent for both).
AFX (aka Aphex Twin) has a new EP pressed on a black CD. I think the metal layer underneath the plastic is coated somehow. Remember the gold audiophile CDs? Peace.
